Dmitry Glukhovsky, author of the Metro <\/em>books that have since become a popular series of video games, has said he is now on a Russian \u201cwanted\u201d list after publicly criticising his home country\u2019s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
In a Telegram post dated June 7<\/span>\u2014as reported by Radio Free Europe<\/span>, via PC Gamer<\/em><\/span>\u2014Glukhovsky says that he was placed on the list following repeated remarks made against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian armed forces in broadcast interviews and on his Instagram account<\/span>, which were \u201cdiscrediting\u201d the government\u2019s actions. He says that despite the warning he will continue to say \u201cStop the War!\u201d, and will oppose \u201cthe Russian Federation…unleashing a war with Ukraine\u201d.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not the first time the author has attracted the attention of Russian authorities; in 2021 he spoke out against the jailing of Putin opponent Alexei Navalny\u2014following a trial that Amnesty International called a \u201csham\u201d\u2014calling for his release in a video he posted online.<\/p>\n
Being placed on the list means that Glukhovsky\u2014who is currently outside Russia\u2014faces a series of escalating punishments if ever apprehended by Russian authorities, with *RFE <\/em>explaining<\/span>:<\/p>\n*

In early March, President Vladimir Putin signed a law that calls for lengthy prison terms for distributing \u201cdeliberately false information\u201d about Russian military operations as the Kremlin seeks to control the narrative about its war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
The law envisages sentences of up to 10 years in prison for individuals convicted of an offense, while the penalty for the distribution of \u201cdeliberately false information\u201d about the Russian Army that leads to \u201cserious consequences\u201d is 15 years in prison.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It also makes it illegal \u201cto make calls against the use of Russian troops to protect the interests of Russia\u201d or \u201cfor discrediting such use\u201d with a penalty possible of up to three years in prison. The same provision applies to calls for sanctions against Russia.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
