Do you wonder how Game Freak and Nintendo can crank out new Pok\u00e9mon games every year? Soon you\u2019ll be able to try\u00a0making them yourself, as a developer is building a Pokemon-style \u201cmonster tamer\u201d RPG game maker \u2013 and a game to go along with it.<\/p>\n

While there are plenty of great building games on PC\u00a0there aren\u2019t too many ways to easily build your own games, least of all RPGs\u00a0\u2013 there\u2019s stuff like RPG maker, of course, but it can be both confusing and limited. Now, developer Yanako RPGs is working on a retro game maker called\u00a0Monster Tamer Maker exclusively to build Pok\u00e9mon-style monster capture games.<\/p>\n

They currently have a Kickstarter in progress, which is over 50% of its goal at the time of writing with nearly a month left to go. This Kickstarter is to raise funds for both the game creator and an original RPG the team is making in it called Dokimon. While the crowdfunding sea can be a harsh mistress, lead developer Yana suggests the Kickstarter is mostly to \u201cassist in funding the artwork so that we can make as much high-quality art as possible\u201d to add to the Monster Tamer Maker.<\/p>\n

Dokimon will serve \u201cas a reference point for builders\u201d and will be \u201ccompletely open-source\u201d, apparently, with MonTamer Maker being \u201cquick and easy to use\u201d with a full suite of tutorials on hand.\u00a0It\u2019ll all be customisable, according to the Kickstarter page, including the combat system.<\/p>\n

While the funding goal is $10k USD, further funding will allow the creator to expand to add\u00a0extra base assets, including music, art, sound effects, and monster types. The estimated release date is December 2022, although we\u2019ve known crowdfunded projects to\u00a0occasionally\u00a0<\/em>slip from time to time, so don\u2019t take that as set in stone.<\/p>\n
