<\/figure>\n During the keynote of this weekend\u2019s EVE<\/em> Fanfest convention in Reykjavik, Iceland, EVE Online<\/em> creative director Bergur Finnbogason previewed an upcoming collaboration between the spacefaring MMO and Microsoft\u2019s Excel spreadsheet program in front of a crowd of dedicated fans. They ate it up.<\/p>\n EVE Online<\/em> diehards often joke<\/span> that the complicated game is essentially \u201cspreadsheets in space\u201d due to the massive amounts of data one must contend with to play it seriously. So when Finnbogason took the stage at EVE<\/em> Fanfest this morning and clicked over to a slide introducing developer CCP Games\u2019 partnership with Microsoft Excel, the official Twitch stream<\/span>\u00a0picked up sensible chuckles from the audience.<\/p>\n But that laughter soon turned to applause when he showed exactly what they have in store.<\/p>\n Mirroring goals laid out in other parts of the keynote, Finnbogason explained that his team is interested in bridging the knowledge and budget gaps between new players and those who\u2019ve played EVE Online<\/em> long enough to establish corporations<\/span> and alliances<\/span> within its vast universe<\/span>.<\/p>\n
