As Bethesda promised, its proprietary launcher is shutting down and the games found on it are making their way to Steam. The company has begun to migrate its Fallout 76<\/em> players over to Steam starting today. And as of yesterday, some of its best classic games have made the jump. Namely, two of the original games in The Elder Scrolls<\/em> saga, Arena<\/em> and Daggerfall<\/em>, are available now on Steam, along with Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I would say that most fans of The Elder Scrolls<\/em> likely didn\u2019t begin with Arena<\/em>. The 1994 open-world RPG was released back when DOS ruled the PC gaming world. It\u2019s old enough that marketers thought the best way to attract a new fanbase was to show as much skin as possible on the box art. I don\u2019t believe that worked. The game was good enough to warrant many sequels, and it\u2019s hard not to find a person who hasn\u2019t played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim<\/em>, either on PC, console, or a toaster.<\/p>\n

Regardless, The Elder Scrolls: Arena<\/em> and its sequel, Daggerfall<\/em>, are on Steam now, and they\u2019re not alone. They\u2019re joined by Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory<\/em>, a rather famous 2003 first-person shooter, also now on Steam. Enemy Territory<\/em>, developed by id Software and Splash Damage, was meant to be an expansion to Return to Castle Wolfenstein<\/em>. However, it was released as a standalone game to much popularity. All three games are going for free as well, and they\u2019re not going to take much storage space. There\u2019s really no reason not to give them a shot. But be warned: they may not have aged all that well.<\/p>\n

Neither has Morrowind<\/em>, to be fair<\/h2>\n

With Arena<\/em> and Daggerfall<\/em>, you can now own pretty much every game in The Elder Scrolls<\/em> on Steam now. That includes An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire<\/em>\u00a0and The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard<\/em>. They aren\u2019t free, however, going for $5.99 USD on the storefront. But if you\u2019re looking to expand your knowledge of The Elder Scrolls<\/em>, this is a good way to do it. Unless, of course, you want to read through all the in-game books. No, I don\u2019t mean\u00a0The Lusty Argonian Maid.\u00a0<\/em>There\u00a0are\u00a0<\/em>other books.<\/p>\n

The Elder Scrolls: Arena<\/em> and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall<\/em> may not light many fires these days, but for fans, it\u2019ll be good to see how the series began. And you can\u2019t go wrong with free.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
