Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda has revealed his expectations on how the video game developer and publishing company will capitalise on blockchain technology.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The president closely stated that traditional game development, most especially in the domestic Japanese market, is simply \u201cnot enough\u201d for Square Enix. Matsuda added that he wants to \u201cutilise the power of autonomous game content to create games that will continue to evolve\u201d by using blockchain tech to incentivise any of such user generated content.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking to Yahoo Japan, Matsuda stated, \u201cIn the future, we would like to try our hand at providing \u2018autonomous game content\u2019. Until now, in most games, we provided the content as a finished product and the players played that content. However, there are a certain number of players in the world who want to contribute to making games more interesting, by creating new settings and ways of playing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the future, we want to utilise the power of these people to create games that will continue to evolve,\u201d he added. \u201cIf, instead of relying on goodwill, we can also provide incentives to those who contribute to development by utilising technologies such as blockchain, there is a possibility that innovative and interesting content can be created from the ideas of users.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matsuda\u2019s comments follow a controversial New Year\u2019s letter where he expressed hope that NFTs and blockchain technology will go on to become a \u201cmajor trend\u201d in gaming. He went on to state that he believes they will be major growth areas for the industry this year from cloud gaming, AI and blockchain titles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
