The developers of Eve Online say they have no plans to add blockchain- or NFT-based features to the massive space MMORPG at this time. While the company \u201cremains intrigued\u201d by blockchain, CCP\u2019s CEO says that the technology isn\u2019t a good fit for Eve Online in its current state.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have no plans to add blockchain technology into EVE Online\u2019s global server Tranquility for the foreseeable future,\u201d CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar P\u00e9tursson says in a statement posted to Eve\u2019s official site today. \u201cFor the coming years, development for Tranquility will focus on building exciting new opportunities on top of the robust foundation that has been laid over the past two decades.\u201d<\/p>\n

P\u00e9tursson says that many members of CCP have been following developments with blockchains and cryptocurrency for the last several years, and believe they have \u201ca lot of untapped potential.\u201d However, he says that the developers have noted the same shortcomings that players have pointed out, and says the studio\u2019s position now is that there\u2019s \u201ca lot of work needed before [blockchain is] ready for EVE-scale games.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we remain intrigued by the technology, for us, NFT stands for \u2018Not for Tranquility’\u201d, P\u00e9tursson says. The company will, he says, \u201ccontinue to push the boundaries of digital economies and virtual worlds,\u201d but that research and experimentation will take place outside of Tranquility.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
