After the dismal reviews of Avengers: A-Day, <\/em>Marvel fans weren\u2019t so keen on getting into Square Enix\u2019s Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em> when it was announced. Oddly though, the game has been receiving great reviews and word-of-mouth, and Eidos Montreal has \u2018no regrets\u2019 when it comes to the game.<\/p>\n

Talking to Eurogamer, GOTG <\/em>senior creative director Jean-Francois Dugas explains:<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no regrets\u2026 We did everything we could but that\u2019s the reality of the market\u2026 And let\u2019s not forget it\u2019s a new IP. Even though we say all \u2018Guardians [of the Galaxy] are known\u2019, it\u2019s still a new IP [in the video game market]. It could be a lot of people don\u2019t even know that the game is out yet, or they\u2019re not sure exactly what it is.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

When the game launched back in 2021, it had admittedly underperformed when it came to sales, and a lot of fans thought it also had something to do with the terrible reception of the Avengers<\/em> game. Despite the commercial lack of success, the game still managed to gain great reviews, and its inclusion on Xbox\u2019s Game Pass allowed it to get even more players and improve sales.<\/p>\n

While Dugas\u2019 statement doesn\u2019t really confirm a sequel, the fan reception alone is probably a hint that people could want more of this version of the Guardians<\/em> to come back for a follow-up. With Marvel Studios ready to wrap-up the story of the onscreen Guardians, <\/em>Square would be smart to try and keep the hype going for a little bit longer.<\/p>\n
