Seeing as Call of Duty: Vanguard hasn\u2019t done terribly well since its release in November, it comes as no surprise to find Activision is currently rethinking its strategy for the franchise. According to a recent job listing, this new strategy is known as \u201cCoD 2.0\u201d and will include subscription-based content alongside the usual premium and mobile games. Activision is even referring to the plan as a \u201cstellar opportunity\u201d.<\/p>\n

What is Call of Duty 2.0?<\/h2>\n

Call of Duty 2.0 will be put in place throughout 2022. According to the job listing for a Manager of Influencer Marketing (which has since been removed after the vacancy was filled but was recorded by CharlieIntel<\/a>), the plan continues to include \u201ccurated player experiences\u201d like Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific and this year\u2019s mainline CoD game, rumored to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Apparently, it also includes \u201csubscription-based content<\/span>\u201d and seemingly a permanent online connection in their games:<\/p>\n

2022 is a stellar opportunity for Call of Duty (CoD), with an extraordinary <\/span>line up of innovations in curated player experiences, multi-platform game play, subscription-based content, mobile game development, and a move to always on community and player connectivity.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

To prepare for this expansion of the franchise, Beenox has opened up a new studio in Montreal to help with the development of Call of Duty games, as well as some of their own projects. Beenox has previously been responsible for creating content for Warzone and is leading the development of the new Call of Duty mobile game.<\/p>\n

As more of an immediate start to bringing in more players to the Call of Duty franchise, Vanguard has started another free-play period today, March 30.\u00a0 The free trial will allow players to try out the multiplayer portion of the game, including all of the new Season 2 content like Arms Race mode and maps Casablanca and Gondola. The free-play period will end on April 13.<\/p>\n

In other news, Ubisoft Massive has announced a public test for the new game mode they\u2019re planning to introduce to The Division 2. Elsewhere, rumors claim NetEase will soon be acquiring Star Wars Eclipse developer Quantic Dream.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
