Disney Dreamlight Valley is a Disney-themed life sim, hitting Early Access this Summer.
According to developer GameLoft, players can “..create their personalized avatar and embark on an enchanting journey alongside some of Disney and Pixar’s most beloved characters”. Which, admittedly, sounds a lot like the now defunct Disney Infinity.
However, Disney Dreamlight Valley promises to go beyond that, giving you the freedom to build your own villages, with multiple biomes drawn from various Disney/Pixar movies. You can create a Frozen inspired kitchen (which seems like bad news for Olaf), cook in a Ratatouille-inspired restaurant and more.

“Disney Dreamlight Valley will give our fans the opportunity to write their own story,” states Luigi Priore, Disney and Pixar Games’s Vice President. But don’t start planning Elsa’s lesbian wedding just yet, we doubt that the game will let you do anything remotely interesting with Disney’s own characters.
Still, it sounds like it could a fun experience if you’re a Disney fan, right? We’re pretty sure kids are going to love the hell out of it too. Except, there’s a problem. It might sound a little like Animal Crossing, but Disney Dreamlight Valley is free-to-play and will feature monetisation.
The game’s website has a section addressing this, and, though it’s very sparse at the moment, it confirms that Disney Dreamlight Valley will feature in-game currency and cosmetics. Given that it’s almost certainly going to have a lot of young players, this seems like a questionable move; GameLoft is going to have to be very, very, careful about how it handles monetisation and the safeguards it (hopefully) puts in place.
Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Early Access incarnation will be arriving on PC, Mac and consoles this summer, with a full launch planned for next year. If you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber you’ll get will get Early Access automatically, otherwise you’ll have to purchase an as yet unpriced “Founders Pack” to get in.
